FAQ

I use to get an e-mail notification of TopCap. I now receive my TopCap by regular mail. Why?

If your e-mail address is invalid (because you've have changed service provider for example), your membership will be switched to receive a paper copy of TopCap. To return to electronic delivery of the TopCap, contact your membership chairman to update your e-mail address. If you have any questions contact your membership chairman, Dieter Rudat, at 613-843-8534 or at [email protected]

How do I get started?

Before you buy anything, either come to a club meeting (first Tuesday of the month, September to June) or come out to a club training night – Wednesday evenings from late April to September – at either the power or glider fields, and talk to some of the members to get advice on what sort of plane and radio to get. If you prefer, email or phone one of the executive – we'll be happy to answer questions.

How much does it cost?

A four-channel radio with transmitter, receiver, batteries, and servos can cost you about $250 or more, a beginner's plane about another $100 to $200 and a motor for $100 or so.  You'll also need to join the ORCC to use our facilities, not to mention get free instruction.

How do I know if there is going to be a training night on any particular Wednesday evening?

For the Drummond field, Wednesday night training is active through the spring (beginning late April) and summer as long as the evening sunshine permits. Check the Weather Network. If the weather is good – not raining, and not too windy – then the training night is a go.

For the glider field, the training nights start only once the field has officially opened which can vary depending upon how wet the field is in the spring.

What is the combination to the gate?

If you renew your membership annually, the gate code is on the back of your membership card.
